What areas of cosmetic healthcare are you most passionate about?
Cosmetic injectable procedures, specifically, the use of neuromodulators and a broad array of dermal fillers. Dermal fillers are an essential tool in the anti-aging arsenal of non-surgical medical esthetics. The face loses substantial volume during the aging process. Strategic placement of filler, which is a soft implant injection, acts as a bolster that supports the skin back to a higher and more youthful height of contour. Using neuromodulators, such as Botox, help relax the pull of muscle on the overlying skin which help soften lines and can create lift when depressor muscles are injected. Restoring patients to a more youthful version of themselves and seeing the resulting self-confidence gives me a daily passion for this work.
What are some of your patients’ most common questions asked?
Three things – Outcomes, Duration and Risks
Outcome: Patients should expect a more youthful, yet natural appearance, without fear of being over treated.
Duration: Botox generally last 3-6 months, with the average patient being treated every 4 months. There are a broad array of dermal fillers for treating different types of volume loss. Some last only 3-4 months, whereas others can last years.
Risks: Common risks may include swelling, redness, bruising and minor discomfort. These resolve relatively soon after treatment, when the patient is properly prepared pre and post treatment.
What is a little known aspect of cosmetic healthcare you wish people were aware of?
Many people are not aware of the more advanced procedures that are now available and the growing number of new products that can address their individual concerns.
If you could only give three pieces of advice, what would they be?
First, come into the clinic for a consultation/evaluation and share your expectations with your injector. Second, choose an injector that is a medically licensed provider and has been specifically trained to perform cosmetic injections. And third, choose a cosmetic injector with 5 or more years of experience.
